Data School develops and provides a wide range of education for professionals, such as in the areas of responsible data practices and AI, public debates online, and (social) media. We offer courses at Utrecht University (UU) that you can individually enroll in, as well as customized courses that can be delivered in-house at your organization.
Education for professionals at Utrecht University (UU)
Within the professional education offering at Utrecht University, we enable professionals to grow further. Our team offers courses with individual enrollment on our Fundamental Rights and Algorithms Impact Assessment (FRAIA). The FRAIA is particularly suitable for organizations that use algorithms in the execution of their legal tasks. This course is designed for individuals who want to dive deeper into this tool.

Our team offers a wide range of services that can be delivered in-house at your organization. From short lectures at an event to multi-day courses for a fixed group: we are confident that we have a suitable offering for your needs.

Interactieve workshops
- The Data Ethics Decision Aid (DEDA): go through our DEDA methodology with a fictional or real case study
- Fundamental Rights and Algorithms Impact Assessment (FRAIA): attend a workshop on the tool, or request our moderation for your own case study
- Data analysis: experience for yourself what it’s like to work with (social media) data
- Build an algorithm: a conceptual exercise where you can experience the subjectivity of algorithms firsthand
- Statement game: experience in an accessible way how your organization thinks about (data) ethical issues in the workplace
- Data walks: explore how data takes shape in the public space

All of the above activities are available in both Dutch and English and can also be combined with each other. For example, a lecture can be supplemented with interactive elements – something we often do and recommend.

Education for UU staff
Internally at Utrecht University, our team is happy to assist in improving skills with programs like Gephi, NVivo, and 4CAT. These workshops are held approximately every six months and are freely accessible to staff at Utrecht University.
